The Challenge

Framerage – Animation to the sound challenge

It’s about creative and artistic handling of animation to a given soundtrack. It’s about fun and nice ideas! It’s less about spending a lot of time on a perfect animation. It should be much more aimed at inspiring the audience with interesting ideas and spontaneous design. See the challenge as a way to try out new things and experiment. Animation should be fun – while making as well as while looking at it.

How it works:

Every two month we will publish one or more soundtracks with a lenght of around 30 seconds. The soundfiles maybe made by soundartists or by animators. Each animator is then asked to make an animation to one of the sound files. Whether professional or hobbyist, every animation artist is welcome to participate.

When the animation is completed, the animator must upload it to Vimeo.  (Please note the technical specifications below.) The film and some personal informations can then be sent to us via the submission form as a link.

We collect all the films and then show them at the Tricktisch in the Z-Bar in Berlin. Everyone is invited. The audience then votes on who has created the best animation and who will be named FrameRage Winner of the challenge. Then we will publish the films as links to Vimeo on this website.

That’s it. We are happy to get your animations!

Is there a deal?

Just as you are allowed to use the sound file and publish it with your animation, the sound designer may also use your animation and, for example, link it to his website.

Please note the rules!

The animations should be uploaded in a good quality. We suggest to use a minimum of 1280 x 720 pixel and a framerate of 24fps.

Your animation does not have to be as long as the soundtrack. Title and credits may e.g. also be created before or after the soundtrack. Furthermore it is perfectly legitimate to include title and end credits as part of the approximately 30 seconds.

It is definitely not allowed to cut or otherwise edit the soundtrack! In addition, you may not add any other sounds or music.

In the credits the sounddesigner and the challenge have to be pointed out in the following way:
Sounddesign by [name of the sounddesigner]
The animation was produced as part of the Framerage Challenge (www.framerage.org).

The animation must be made by you personally and you must have the publishing rights to it. By submitting your work, you allow us to post your animation as a link.
